TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - For the Godby flag football team, the nerves are very real.

"I do not like heights. I do not like anything going over water either," laughed senior Gisele Jones. "I'm very nervous to get on the plane."

"They don't know if they want to go because of the plane!" laughed fellow senior Kaylene Colburn.

Ready or not, the Cougars are Big Apple bound, and spoiler alert - they all survived the plane ride. Godby landed in New York City Friday afternoon, and on Saturday, will play the first ever interstate high school flag football games in the country.

"We'll be playing one of their State Champions, they've won four of the five State Championships, and then the other team that has made it to a couple of them and been another dominant team," said assistant coach Ricky Hufty.

Iron sharpens iron, but for the Cougars, this trip bigger than the gridiron.

"New things and seeing new people and meeting new people," said Jones of her excitement for taking the trip. "It's always good to meet new people, and it's always good to see new things, to open your mind about stuff."

"New York is a really beautiful place and I can't wait to see the beautiful sites," added Colburn.

"It's probably going to be the coolest part for us as coaches is to live vicariously through them and see their reaction.," said Hufty. "This is that once in a lifetime deal for all of us."

It's a once in a lifetime deal that has the Cougars ready to represent the 850.

"We're very excited to be part of it. It's very humbling to think about the magnitude of the trip," said Hufty. "We're glad to get to be a part of it and do it."

"I think it's more about letting people see who we are, who Tallahassee really is," added Jones.

Who they really are. Proud to be from Tallahassee.
