TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Last Friday night, the Leon girls soccer team punched their ticket to the Regional Quarterfinals with a 4-0 District Championship win over Lincoln. That District title means they get to host the first round of the play-offs, so on Thursday, the ladies took their home pitch against Navarre.
The Leon Lions are familiar with Navarre, as the Raiders knocked Leon out of the postseason with a double overtime win in the Regional Semifinals last season. The Lions lead 2-0 at the half this year, but Navarre tied it at three at the end of regulation.
This one, also finished in double overtime, but unlike last season, Leon comes out on top 4-3. They will have to wait to find out their opponent, as the other 4A Region 1 Quarterfinal featuring Lincoln and Niceville was moved to Friday because of the weather.
In Class 2A, the Wakulla War Eagles fell to North Bay Haven 4-1. Florida High hosted Pensacola Catholic in the other 2A Region 1 Quarterfinal, with the home team Seminoles winning 5-4 in penalty kicks to seal up their date with North Bay Haven in Tuesday's Semifinals.
In Class 1A, Maclay fell to St. Joseph 1-0, ending their season.
