ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia Tech has agreed to play Mercer, which is reviving its football program this year, in 2016.
Athletic director Mike Bobinski says the decision to add Mercer to its 2016 schedule is part of Georgia Tech's new plan to play more in-state opponents. Georgia Tech will play Georgia Southern for the first time in 2014.
Mercer is resuming football competition this fall for the first time in 72 years. It will compete as a Football Championship Subdivision team.
Georgia Tech and Mercer last met in 1938. Georgia Tech is 10-0-1 in the all-time series which began in 1892.
