GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Doug Nussmeier has been named the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach for the 2015 Florida football team, head coach Jim McElwain announced Wednesday. Nussmeier spent the 2014 season in the same role at Michigan following two years as the offensive coordinator at Alabama, where he won the 2012 BCS National Championship with the Crimson Tide.
Nussmeier and McElwain worked together at Michigan State (2003-05) under head coach John L. Smith, with Nussmeier serving as the Quarterbacks Coach and McElwain as the Assistant Head Coach/Wide Receivers Coach. When McElwain left Fresno State in 2007, Nussmeier replaced him as Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach. The same thing happened at Alabama after the 2011 season, with Nussmeier taking the same position with the Crimson Tide after McElwain was named the head coach at Colorado State.
“Doug and I have worked together on the same staff and I’ve known him for years,” McElwain said. “We are like thinkers in that he will adapt to the players we have in the program and develop them as we continue to evolve.”
