ATLANTA - Georgia Southern scored 28 straight points in the second half to take a late lead over Georgia Tech. In the closing seconds Justin Thomas threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Deon Hill as Tech avoided a huge upset 42-38 on Saturday.
The Jackets are known for the triple option but it was Thomas' fourth TD pass of the game that helped Tech avoid the upset.
Georgia Southern trailed 35-10 at halftime before mounting a second half comeback and briefly taking the lead in the fourth quarter.
Georgia Tech's Jamal Golden forced a fumble that gave his team the ball with 4:12 remaining. The Yellow Jackets then drove for the winning score.
