TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After a productive fall exhibition season and a winter break spent with friends and family, the Florida State softball team returned to JoAnne Graf Field on Monday for its first day of practice for the 2015 season. Head coach Lonni Alameda enters her seventh season at the helm of the Seminole program.
“I’m excited for this season to begin and to see all the hard work that everyone has been putting in,” said Alameda. “We’ve had a long break from being on the field together, and it almost feels as though we don’t know what to do with ourselves unless we are out here playing Seminole softball.”
Returning 12 letterwinners from last year’s squad that advanced to the Women’s College World Series, the Seminoles will be led by a solid senior class consisting of Lacey Waldrop, Maddie O’Brien and Bailey Schinella.
Ten newcomers will be wearing the Garnet and Gold for the first time in 2015, including the 2014 Florida Miss Softball winner Korina Rosario and runner-up Meghan King. Power-hitting Jessica Warren, speedy outfielder Morgan Klaevemann and junior transfer Amy Szymanowski highlight a talented group of new faces on the team.
FSU begins the 2015 season in Tallahassee on February 7 with the Renegade Classic as the Seminoles play host to Georgia Southern and fellow 2014 WCWS participant Kentucky.
