TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State soccer team shut out Northeastern Friday night in the second round of the NCAA Tourament. It's the second straight postseason shutout for the Seminoles.
With the win the Seminoles secured a spot in the ‘Round of 16’ for the 10th year in a row and will face UCF on Sunday.
“It was a very good game tonight,” Florida State head coach Mark Krikorian. “Northeastern came in and battled us very hard and I thought our kids were resilient, played well, created some decent chances, and of course finished three.
Three different Florida State players scored on Friday night led by redshirt sophomore Kirsten Crowley who tallied a career-high three points on a goal and an assist. Cheyna Williams notched the game’s first goal, the eventual game-winner, in the 18th minute, while Dagny Brynjarsdottir capped the scoring with her team leading 16th goal of the season in the second half.
With the win, Florida State tied a school record with an unbeaten streak of 17 straight games. The Seminoles also secured their 15th straight victory at home in NCAA Tournament play while improving to 33-1-0 all-time during the postseason inside the Seminole Soccer Complex.
