Tallahassee, Fla. (WTXL) - For fans of Godby Cougar and Rickards Raider basketball, Friday night was the night they've had circled on their calendar since the last time the two squared off.
Godby is the defending Class 4A State Champion, while Rickards is the 5A State Runner-up. This year, the two are in the same Classification, the same District, and they're still big rivals.
Godby held a double digit lead at the start of the fourth quarter, but Rickards fought back, rallying to tie things and then take the lead with a minute to play. Godby hit two late free throws to ice the win, claiming round one of the rivalry 56-53.
On the ladies side, Rickards hosted Godby tonight in the same District rivalry. The Raiders scored the first 13 points of the game, and never looked back, winning 52-27.
