TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Florida State softball dominated the Atlantic Coast Conference on the diamond in 2014, winning a record number of conference games. On Friday, the ACC honored four Noles as part of the 2014 All-ACC Academic team.
Senior pitcher Jessica Nori made the team for the fourth time, joining Georgia TEch's Alysha Rudnik and Boston College's Tory Speer as four-time honorees. Nori made 19 appearances in the circle for FSU in 2014, tossing 37 innings while recording a 2.84 ERA with 20 strikeouts. Her four saves in 2014 tie a Seminole single-season record, and her nine career saves are the most ever for a Florida State athlete.
Senior and junior outfielders Kelly Hensley and Bailey Schinella are All-ACC Academic team members for the third time. Hensley batted .290 for the season with two home runs and 21 RBI. Schinella hit .282 with three home runs, 29 RBI, and also pitched 3.2 scoreless innings.
Junior pitcher Lacey Waldrop made the All-ACC Academic team for the first time in her career. The Chester, Va. native led the NCAA with 38 wins in the circle, while racking up 287 strikeouts in 266.1 innings, finishing the season with a 1.13 ERA. Waldrop was also named USA Softball's National Player of the Year.
"Being successful on the field is just a small part of what this program is about," said Florida State softball head coach Lonni Alameda. "We are also working to create great students and amazing people who will be successful in life after their time here.
"I am very proud of these ladies for the hard work they put in not only to get us back to the World Series this season, but also to earn this great academic honor."
Student-athletes must achieve a 3.00 grade point average or better for the previous semester and maintain a 3.00 GPA or better for an academic career to be considered for the All-ACC Academic team.
