TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) - The All-Star game isn't just a showcase of talent. Yes, Major League Baseball's best are brought in for the Mid-Summer Classic, but the winner of the game, American or National League, gets home field advantage for the World Series.

Former Madison County and Tallahassee Community College standout Lorenzo Cain showed why he was selected as an All-Star in Tuesday night's contest. He singled in the fourth inning, and doubled in the fifth, driving in a run to give the AL the 3-1 lead.

WTXL spoke with Lorenzo's mom Patricia Tuesday afternoon before she headed over to the game, and to say she's proud of her son, would be an understatement.

"Sometimes I just look back and I think," she said. "Either the guys that he played with coming up in high school, they had been playing little league ever since they were little. For them not to make it, and for him to be blessed to make it, it really is amazing."

WTXL will have more on Lorenzo's climb from Madison to big league ball player Friday for our WTXL Road Trip series.
