Tallahassee, FL (WTXL) -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have a bye this week so cornerback William Gay is back in town for the holidays. The Rickards graduate went door-to-door handing out 22 turkeys and boxes of food to 22 different families--22 because he wears number 22.
He loves giving back to the city he grew up in. "Anytime I can come back and just be a blessing because my community was a blessing to me," Gay said. "It always puts a smile on my face, it's a family holiday, so it's good to give back and see smiles on family's faces." Gay added.
It's not about the publicity either. "I just to let everybody know it comes from the heart. I've been through the struggle my whole life," Gay said. "It doesn't matter about the camera. I use my platform to get my opinion across or an issue across. I just do this out of the love and out of the kindness of my heart."
Gay and the Steelers are 6-4 and take on the the Seahawks on Sunday, November 29th.
