VALDOSTA, Ga. - Valdosta State's Nick Fogarty has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Assocation Division II Pitcher of the Week after recording a pair of dominating wins to open the season.
Fogarty's firs two starts of the season were highlighted by a perfect game in last Saturday's doubleheader against Paine. In that game, which lasted seven innings, Fogarty struck out nine batters and had seven fly ball outs and give ground ball outs. The perfect game was just the second in VSU's 58-year history and the fifth in Gulf South Conference history.
Fogarty began the year by pitching six shutout innings against Lynn. In that game, he struck out a career-high 12 batters and allowed just two hits.
On the year, Fogarty has a 2-0 record and a 0.00 earned-run average. He has struck out 21 batters in 13.0 innings of work and has held opposing batters to a .049 batting average.
Fogarty and the Blazers return to action this Saturday at Noon when they face Benedict in Columbia, S.C.
