VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - If you talk to any high school football guru, chances are, their eyes will light up at the mention of Valdosta High. The Wildcats are the winningest high school program in the country, and this year, look to pick up a few more wins after going 9-2 last season.
The Cats return just three starters on defense, but head coach Rance Gillespie said they are looking good offensively. The Wildcats have a tough schedule ahead, and Gillespie said he hopes to find out the true nature of this team as they get in to the season.
"I don't know that we'll know the identity of this football team until we get two or three games in to the season," he said. "That's always interesting to watch the transition as a new group of seniors come in and kind of take the reins of the football team. We're still waiting to see."
How tough is their schedule? Valdosta will face the last three Class 6A State Champions this year. They open the season on Friday the 14th against Ware County for preseason action. The regular schedule opens up at the Georgia Dome against Norcross.
