THOMASVILLE, GA (WTXL) -- The Thomas County Central High School football team continues a tradition that has lasted over two decades. The yellow jackets took part in their annual march madness practice, helping prepare the team for the upcoming season.

Due to lightning, the practice didn’t begin until 12:30 a.m., but that wouldn’t stop more than 100 fans ready to watch the yellow jackets.

Head Coach Bill Shaver has six new coaches on his coaching staff, including a new offensive coordinator. He said his goal for this preseason is to improve everyday and to avoid injuries.

Coach Shaver said the march madness practice is something players and fans look forward to.

“It’s always an exciting time for our guys, I mean it’s almost like another game.” Coach Shaver said.

The march madness practice was the first practice of the yellow jackets football camp but due to new rules the camp no longer takes place.

Thomasville Central has a scrimmage game against Rockdale County High School, a team near Atlanta, Friday, August 14.
