SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - The Suwannee Bulldogs gave Suwannee County a lot to cheer for last season, as the Bulldogs made their first Final Four appearance since 1999.
Head coach Jamie Rodgers admitted they're going to have a tough time repeating that success, as they lost a lot of seniors, including stud running back Denzel Washington, who had 31 touchdowns last season.
Rodgers is happy to return starting quarterback Steven Anderson, a junior, as well as Aaron McAllister, the Bulldogs only receiver who's back. The biggest change? The fact that Suwannee's switched Districts, and will now face teams from Jacksonville Rodgers admits he doesn't know too much about.
"I've got a lot of friends in the Jacksonville area, that's where I grew up, that's where I went to college and played high school over in Baker County," he said. "I got some friends over there to be able to give me some tips and pointers and stuff like that. We're going to have to run the ball probably first to set up the passing game with a little bit of play action. We've got some really good returning offensive lineman, some guys that are going to get to play at the next level, so we're probably going to have to lean pon them a little bit more this year."
Suwannee is at Madison County for their preseason contest on August 21st. They open up the regular season on the road at Leon.
