Florida State Women Look For Seventh Straight Win

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Florida State women's basketball team has been cruising through ACC play. They've won six games in a row. Their latest? Over rival, and then 16th ranked, Miami. Their dominance as of late hasn't always been easy. Just a few weeks ago, the ladies were still trying to figure out how to play as a cohesive unit.

On Thursday, the Seminoles look for the seventh straight win as they hit the road to face Wake Forest. The Noles are in the top two in the ACC in several categories, from scoring to rebounding. All those stats have to be on point against Wake, as the Demon Deacons are riding a two game win streak in to the match-up.

A lot of talk this season has been on Florida State's Elite Eight run last season, but this team is a different squad, and they're starting to come around.

"They know that every game is going to be tough," said head coach Sue Semrau on Wednesday. "They know the type of pressure that they're facing. I think they've done fairly well with it thus far, and again, we're looking forward and last year was a great year, but we look forward to what we can do and be this year."

"It's a matter of us going in to practice every day like hey, you guys, we have to go out here and grind it out," said sophomore Shakayla Thomas. "We know people are coming after us from the past, it was like okay we're Florida State, but now it's like, oh my God, this is Florida State. It's just us earning respect."

Thursday's contest with Wake Forest tips off at 7:00.
