CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) – Imani Wright scored 22 points to help sixth-ranked Florida State beat North Carolina 90-77 on Thursday night.
Ivey Slaughter added 16 points for the Seminoles (14-2, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference). They shot 49 percent, controlled the inside and ran off the first eight points of the third quarter to lead by as many as 19.
Wright, who was averaging 11.1 points, had 19 last week in a win at Miami and had another big day by making 9 of 16 shots.
The bigger Seminoles finished with a 37-30 rebounding advantage, doubled UNC's guard-dependent lineup on the offensive glass (16-8) and scored 19 second-chance points.
Stephanie Watts scored 19 points for the Tar Heels (11-4, 0-2), who also shot 49 percent. But with FSU controlling the boards, the Seminoles got plenty of extra looks (18 more shots) while also scoring 17 points off turnovers to keep UNC in catch-up mode all night.
POST-GAME NOTES COMPILED BY FSU SPORTS INFORMATION:
· Redshirt junior guard Imani Wright recorded a game-high 22 points, her second 20-point game of the year. In her other ACC road game this season at Miami she delivered 19 points including four 3-point field goals made.
· FSU recorded 90+ points against the Tar Heels for the second straight season, defeated UNC 94-63 last year.
· Senior Leticia Romero picked up her 11th double-figure points game of the season with 14. Her 11th last season came on Feb. 14, 2015, against the Tar Heels.
· Senior Ivey Slaughter corralled eight rebounds to move into eighth place on the FSU career rebounds list with 288. In seventh place is current assistant coach Brooke Wyckoff with 804 rebounds.
· Senior Brittany Brown recorded a season-high 10 assists to move into sixth place at FSU with 369. She moved ahead of Cheetah Delgado (364 – 2012-14) and Robin Corn (364 – 1987-92).
· Junior center Chatrice White’s four blocked shots are the most by a Seminole this season. She also picked up her second double-double of the season with 11 points and a season-high 11 boards, including her second in three games vs. ACC schools.
· Brown added four steals and is now three steals shy of passing the late Alicia “Ice” Gladden for the program’s all-time record (275 steals from 2003-07). Brown has 273 career steals.
· Florida State entered the locker room at the break with a 41-31 halftime lead, its 15th halftime lead in 16 games this season.
· UNC shot 49.1 percent (27-of-55) from the field. FSU has not allowed an opponent to shoot 50 percent or better this season.
· Thursday’s tip-off between FSU and UNC marked the 35th anniversary of the first-ever meeting between both teams on Jan. 5, 1982, at the Hurricane New Year’s Classic in Miami (FSU won 77-68).
· FSU is now 13-1 in games following a loss in its last 14 chances.
· FSU head coach Sue Semrau is now 163-132 all-time in ACC play, the second-winningest active coach in ACC play. UNC head coach Sylvia Hatchell is first with 282 ACC wins.
· FSU is now 12-0 this season when it records 15 or more assists in a game. FSU had 19 assists.
· FSU is 2-0 in road ACC games for the eighth time in program history and the first time since the 2013-14 season.
· The Seminoles improve to 15-4 in their last 19 road ACC games.
