TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - On Thursday night, the Florida State women's basketball team looked to improve to 5-1 in ACC play with a win over Virginia. The Seminoles led by seven at the half, and overcome several turnovers in the third period to take the 70-48 win.
Sophomore Shakayla Thomas scored 20 points, while Ivey Slaughter added 13 points and ten boards in the win.
The Seminoles have outrebounded every ACC team to date this season, and Thursday was no different, as Florida State won the battle on the boards 42-36, while forcing 22 turnovers that led to 15 points.
Florida State scored 22 points in the fourth period alone to seal up the win, and after so much time trying to figure out this team's chemistry, head coach Sue Semrau said she thinks they finally have it.
"They're just working, and you know I think that happens a lot in college basketball, is you work, you work, you work, and there comes a point where the light bulb starts to come on," she said. "We're seeing that. We're not satisfied, we still have work to do, but I just credit these guys."
The Seminoles return to action Sunday when they travel to Miami.
