TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Olympic Games are not the only International competition going on this summer. Next week, Florida State track and field stand-out Armani Wallace travels to Poland for the IAAF World Junior Championships, and like his teammates headed to Rio, his goal is to win gold.
The Junior Championships are for athletes under twenty years of age, and Wallace is representing Team USA in the triple jump after a silver medal performance in the United States Junior Championships in June.
Wallace is coming off a success freshman campaign at Florida State, one where he finished second at ACC's, but fell just short of qualifying for Nationals. That shortfall has only motivated him to this point, and he said he's ready to represent in Poland.
"I'm looking forward to the competition," he said. "I'm looking forward to getting my name out there and making people recognize who I am. It's everything I've ever wanted to represent the United States is just a real honor."
"He didn't even have a passport until he realized he needed a passport to register for the meet," laughed coach Dennis Nobles. "If he goes out and he does well, that's just going to give him more and more confidence of hey, I belong here. I'm one of the elite. I'm one of the best."
Wallace competes in Poland on July 20th and 21st.
