TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Florida State women's basketball team looked to rebound off a loss to Florida on Thursday night as they welcomed in Tulane for their home opener.
Florida State had only eight players available after guards Leticia Romero and Emiah Bingley were injured Monday night in a loss to Florida. Even without a true point guard Wednesday night, the Noles got it done, winning 78-72 thanks in large part by a breakout performance from sophomore Shakayla Thomas.
Thomas scored a career high 26 points in the win, and head coach Sue Semrau said she was impressed with the sophomore's performance.
"I didn't want to tell the team this before the game because I felt like they would continue to just try to pound it in to her," she said after the game. "I felt like if we could go to her early with her athleticism and their lack of size, I felt like she could really get on a roll, and the team did that."
The win expanded the Noles home game win streak to 18 games. Florida State returns to action Sunday with they host UAB. Tip off is at 5:00.
