TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The grind of the high school wrestling season is just about over in Florida. This weekend, Regional action hits the mats, and the goal? To be one of the top four wrestlers in your weight class and punch that ticket to the State Finals.
The Florida High Seminoles odd of sending guys to State is pretty good. Each member of the fourteen man team made it to Regionals this weekend, a first for the program. Five of those fourteen are District Championships, and those five are the most District Champs the Noles have boasted in a season to date.
So there's a lot of excitement surrounding the upcoming tournament, but this program is still young. They boast just one senior, and while the new found success is nice, head coach Clay Allen said this team has worked for every achievement they have.
"Going and winning tournaments and doing those things we've done this year has been a testament to their work and how hard they've worked and them just buying in and believing in what we're doing," said Allen. "That's been big because they have worked very, very hard and now they're starting to see the benefits of that work paying off, which just reaffirms everything that they've been doing. It helps even more because they turn around and tell a younger guy, it's okay, I was you, I've been there, you'll get to where I'm at, just trust in the process."
