PERRY, Fla. (WTXL) - On Friday night, the Florida High Seminoles upended Taylor County to force a three way playoff with Pensacola Catholic in Class 3A District 1.
A District Champion and a Runner-up would be decided Monday in a shoot-out. The Seminoles, defeated Pensacola Catholic in the first quarter of play, so a match-up with Taylor County decided the District Champion.
The Bulldogs scored first, but missed the extra point to take a 6-0 lead. Florida High scored towards the end of the first quarter, and Chase Allbaugh drained the point after to go up 7-6. That's all they would need, as the Noles hung on to claim the District title.
"The resilience of this team. The resilience of these seniors," said head coach Jarrod Hickman on winning the title. Florida High lost their opening District match-up with Catholic in September, but rattled off three District wins to claim the crown. "We played without a bunch of those guys in the Catholic game and it hurt and we got beat and we had to regroup. We had to look at it in the mirror and say look, we understand the process we put in. Play the next play, good things will happen, and it did."
Taylor County faced off with Catholic for the Runner-up spot, which they won 13-0.
The Suwannee Bulldogs hosted Yulee and Ribault in a three way playoff in Class 5A District 3. The Bulldogs fell to Ribault and then Yulee, and will be watching the postseason from home. Ribault won the District title.
