TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Florida A&M softball team closed out the regular season with a loss to Capital City rival Florida State. The ladies weren't happy with the result, but they turned things around, and had a stellar showing at the MEAC Tournament.
The Rattlers won their third straight Conference Championship over the weekend, a great feeling to have as they gear up for Florida State in Regional play this weekend.
The Rattlers admitted they would have liked to travel for Regionals, but playing on a field and against an opponent you're familiar with does have it's perks. They're led by MEAC Pitcher of the Year Kenya Pereira, and Player of the Year finalist Jessica Nathan, who leads the Nation in triples.
"It's all about us going in and playing our game and knowing that we are there to compete," said Nathan Wednesday at practice. "It doesn't matter who we are playing. A lot of the times, the games that we have lost is us beating ourselves."
"We're riding a high," said assistant coach Vashion Johnson of entering Regionals fresh off their three-peat. "The offense has kicked in, everybody is enjoying where we're at right now, and we're enjoying being MEAC Champions. We want to take that with us, that swag with us."
South Carolina and South Florida make up the other half of the Tallahassee Regional. They play at noon on Friday. Florida State and the Rattlers face off after that game is over.
