JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The FAMU Softball team dropped a Wednesday evening twinbill at Jacksonville University, 8-6 and 4-0 at Pruitt Stadium.
In the opener, starting pitcher Kenya Pereira belted a first inning grand slam homer to put FAMU ahead 4-0, before JU answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
FAMU (21-23) scored twice in the second to extend their lead to 6-2, but the Dolphins (20-24), tied the game at 6-6 with four runs in the fifth, then took the lead for good with two runs in the sixth.
Reliever Veronica Burse (6-9) took the loss for FAMU, which finished Game One with nine hits, paced by Pereira and Tashayla Irvis with two hits each.
In the second game, FAMU managed just three hits, singles from Pereira, Miesha McBride and Tahlia Snider.
Burse (6-10) got the decision for FAMU, pitching six innings, scattering seven hits and allowing four runs, two earned with six strikeouts.
FAMU is at Savannah State in their next outing, Saturday and Sunday in a three-game MEAC series.
