TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Florida A&M football team is looking to turn things around this fall after going 1-10 in Alex Wood's first season as head coach.

The Rattlers kicked off fall camp on Thursday, with Wood commenting that a key goal was working on fundamentals, and as far as translating practice to games? Wood noted the defense needs to step up, and the offense has to put points on the board.

"We knew what it would take to win before we took the job, what it takes to win in college football," he said. "We've been doing this a long time, we know what it takes to win. It's just a matter of can we get it done. Can we get the right formula and chemistry going from a team perspective to get it done? Make the plays to get it done."

A big key to the offense is the guy taking snaps, a position the Rattlers struggled with to find consistency last season. FAMU has four quarterbacks competing for the starting role, and while no timetable has been named for announcing a starter, Wood said he knows what he's looking for.

"The guy that's most consistent and can move the team and make plays," he said, adding that there is a healthy competition for the role.

Florida A&M kicks off the season September 3rd at Miami.
