Florida A&M Men's Basketball Opens Season With A Win

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Nov. 6) - The Florida A&M Men's Basketball team opened its' 2017-18 campaign Monday night with a rousing 107-71 romp over visiting Johnson (Fla.) University in the Al Lawson Center.
 
Senior forward Desmond Williams finished with a double double, scoring a game-high 24 points, on 11 of 18 shooting, along with 10 rebounds, heading a quintet of Rattlers scoring in double digits.
 
Sophomore guard Nasir Core finished with 17 points, followed by senior Marcus Barham with 14, junior Justin Ravenel with 12 points and sophomore Brendan Myles with 11,
 
FAMU pulled away from the Suns late in the first half to hold a nine-point margin at 44-35, outpaced the Kissimmee-based crew, 63-36 in the second half to breeze to victory.
 
Jaymeke Smith led the Suns with 16 points, followed by Jon Baker with 14, Kendall Oliver with 13 and Josh Grover with 10.
 
WHAT'S NEXT: FAMU opens a four-game road trip Friday in Phoenix, Arizona against Grand Canyon University (7:00 pm Mountain Time) and at UNLV Saturday (7:00 p.m. MT) in Las Vegas.
