TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - When the Florida A&M men's basketball team arrives in Montreal, Canada on Friday afternoon, it'll be in the mid-70's. Yes, basketball in August, in Canada, you read that right.
The Rattlers are headed north for the next week for four exhibition basketball games, and it's a special opportunity, one head coach Byron Samuels is happy to have. Bonus practices and games all mean a leg up on your competition come season.
It's perfect timing too, as the Rattlers are fully eligible to compete in postseason play, and although they've haven't installed a full offense yet, this trip is a lot bigger than basketball.
"I want us to have fun in the trip, experience a new way of living and a new culture," said Samuels. "I want us to get closer as a team, to bond a little bit closer, to appreciate one another a little bit better, and I want them to find out ways we can commit and trust one another a little bit better as we continue to prepare for the season."
Florida A&M opens play on Saturday, August 13th against UQAM. They will visit several Canadian landmarks during their week long trip.
