Florida A&M Baseball Preps For MEAC Tournament

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - This weekend was a big one for the Florida A&M baseball team. Never mind the fact that they clinched the one seed for the Southern Division in the MEAC Tournament, but their sweet over North Carolina A&T also gave them thirty wins, the first thirty win season since 2003.

Those thirty wins, also just the third since becoming a Division I program in 1980. Other marks this weekend? Alec Wong had eleven straight hits, three off the all-time National record. Head coach Jamey Shouppe is one win away from tying the most wins over any consecutive three year period.

The list goes on, but as hot as the Rattlers are right now, it was back to business on Monday as they prep for this weekend's MEAC Tournament, as FAMU looks to capture their second straight Conference crown.

"Our goal going in to this year was looking back at the last two years. Two years ago we made the tournament. We used that experience in making the tournament two years ago to win the tournament last year," he said. "We're hoping to use that experience to repeat this year and then go on to a Regional and play a lot better then what we played last year in Regional play. That's been our goal. We don't hide anything from our guys. We put our goals out there and then sit back and help our guys work towards those goals."

Shouppe and the Rattlers face the winner of North Carolina Central and Delaware State on Friday at noon.
