TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - Wednesday marked the final day of the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft and Florida State went out with a bang.
After Taylor Walls and Dylan Busby were taken on day one, seven Seminoles were drafted on Wednesday, bringing the total to nine, the most for Florida State since 1995.
Quincy Nieporte was the first off the board on Wednesday, picked in the 26th round by the Phillies. The other six picks were all pitchers. Cobi Johnson was taken by the Angels in the 29th round. Drew Carlton was picked by Detroit in the 32nd, while Alec Byrd was taken by the Rockies in the 33rd.
Andrew Karp went in the 34th to the Cubs, while Lincoln grad Tyler Holton was picked up by the Marlins in the 35th round. Jim Voyles closed out the Seminole picks in the 38th round, going to the Cardinals.
Florida A&M wasn't left out of the Draft, as Aubrey McCarty, a two way player for the Rattlers this season, was picked up by the Rockies in the 26th round.
Other local picks to close out the 2017 MLB Draft? Former Rickards Raider Tra'Mayne Holmes was taken in the 11th round by Arizona, while Lincoln ace, and Florida State signee, Austin Pollock went to St. Louis in the 40th round.
