SMYRNA, Del. -- Florida A&M made history Saturday morning, winning the 2017 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Cross Country Championship, its sixth straight title, at the Delaware State University Outreach & Research Center.

The Rattlers won the meet with 46 points.

FAMU’s Director of Track and Field, Dr. Darlene Moore was named Most Outstanding Coach for the sixth straight year.

In winning its 10th overall title, Florida A&M averaged an 18:52 over the 5K course and placed all five runners in the top 15.

Martha Bissah of Norfolk State was named Most Outstanding Performer after winning individual gold. She completed the 5K course in a MEAC-record 17:16.30.

Bissah was 22 seconds faster than the second-place finisher, Faith Keitany of Hampton. Janet Okeago, also of Hampton was third (17:58.40), while Florida A&M’s Emmax Kiplagat (18:11.40) and Norfolk State’s Candice Higgins (18:35.60) rounded out the top five.

Hampton finished second with 63 points, while Norfolk State tallied 99 points to come in third. North Carolina A&T State, Morgan State, Maryland Eastern Shore, Howard, Delaware State, Bethune-Cookman, Coppin State, South Carolina State, Savannah State and North Carolina Central rounded out the team standings.

The top 15 finishers earned All-MEAC honors.
