FAMU Volleyball Outlasts Alabama State, 3-2

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Nov. 8) - The FAMU Women's Volleyball team closed their 2017 home schedule Wednesday night with a tough, five-set victory over Alabama State in the Al Lawson Center.

FAMU (11-11), won the opening set, 25-22, before Alabama State (25-10) rebounded to win the second set, 26-24.
 
The Rattlers won the third set, 25-14, but fell behind in the fourth set, before forcing ties at 24, 25, 26, and 27 all, before State won the last two points for a 29-27 set win.
 
FAMU clinched the match with a 15-11 win the in the fifth set, with sophomore Nicole Abreu's kill the decisive score.
 
Abreu led all scorers with 24 kills, followed by freshman Candelaria Herrera's 22 kills and Maria Yvette Garcia's 10.
 
Senior setter Valeria Lopez dished out 50 assists in her final home match Wednesday, while junior Valentina Carrasco led FAMU with 18 digs.
 
Ni'yesha Brown led Alabama State with 21 kills, followed by Bayle` Bennett with 14.
 
WHAT'S NEXT: FAMU heads to the Carolinas this weekend to close the regular season, Friday at North Carolina Central, and Sunday at North Carolina A&T, in advance of next weekend's MEAC Volleyball Championships in Princess Anne, Md.
