ORANGEBURG, S.C. (April 27) - The Florida A&M Softball team got a pair of conference wins today as the Lady Rattlers blanked South Carolina State, 4-0 in game one and 3-0 in game two, here Saturday afternoon at Lady Bulldogs field in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader.
FAMU (16-29, 8-3) was paced by Raven Mosley as she finished with two of the Lady Rattlers seven hits.
SCSU (16-25, 4-7) Mikala Johnson recorded the Lady Bulldogs only hits.
Jennifer Lindsey (11-19) picked the win for the Lady Rattlers in game one as she gave up one hit, and striking out eight in seven inning of work, while Vianney Gomez (13-12) received the loss for the Lady Bulldogs a she pitched seven inning, allowing seven hits, two earned runs and striking out two in the 35 batters she faced.
FAMU grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a Robbielyn Roberson two-run homer.
The Lady Rattlers added run in the top of the sixth inning as Bianca Torres scored on fielding error, extending FAMU’s lead to 3-0.
Naesha Lewis scored FAMU’s final run of the game on a Moseley single in the top of the seventh inning for the 4-0 finale.
In game two, FAMU tallied seven hits, while SCSU recorded two hits in the contest.
Both Ashanti Shepherd and Brielle Gordon finished with two hits each to lead the Rattlers, while Taylor-Anne Harris recorded both of the Lady Bulldogs hits on the day.
Ashleigh Minter (5-10) picked up the win for FAMU as she pitched seven innings, allowing two hits and striking out two in the 23 batters she faced, while Jazmine Robinson received the loss (0-8) allowing seven hits, two earned runs and striking out four in the seven innings of work.
FAMU scored two run in the top of the fifth inning as Lewis scored on a Christina Robbs single, followed by a Lady Bulldogs fielding error scoring Shepherd, giving the Lady Rattlers a 2-0 lead.
The Lady Rattlers scored their final run of the game in the top of the seventh inning as Tikeya Strong scored on a Brielle Gordon single to center field for the 3-0, finale.
FAMU will return to action on Sunday, April 28 as they will face South Carolina State in their final game of their three-game MEAC series at 12 p.m. at Lady Bulldog field.
