TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Mar. 26) – The FAMU Softball team completed a three-game swept of North Carolina Central with a 7-0 Sunday victory at the FAMU Softball Complex.
Tallahassee Lincoln High graduate Tahlia Snider (3-2) went the distance in her Sunday start in the pitching circle, striking out 10, while allowing just one hit, a two out double by Lauren Sitterson, followed by a walk, before getting strikeout to end the inning.
FAMU (8-24-1, 3-0 in MEAC) finished the game with five hits, three coming off the bat ot senior third baseman Amber Fullwood, who went three-for-four, with a double, a home run, three runs scored and two RBIs.
The Rattlers also got a solo homer from Jamesia Stoudemire, and a single from Toni Anderson for the other hits.
FAMU scored two runs in the second, as Fullwood lashed an RBI double to score Stoudemire, who reached on a lead off walk. Fullwood made it 2-0 on Toni Anderson’s RBI single.
The Rattlers increased their lead to 5-0 with a three-run third, highlighted by a lead off solo home run by Stoudemire. Fullwood later reached on a one out single, advanced to second on a wild pitch, moving to third then Toni Anderson reached safely on an error.
After Alexis Day drew a walk to load the bases, Fullwood scored from third on a wild pitch for a 4-0 lead, then Shayla Boyd, pinch running for Anderson, scored from third on Miesha McBride’s sacrifice fly to right for a 5-0 score.
Fullwood increased the FAMU lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth with a solo homer to left, then in the fifth, Alexis Day drew a leadoff walk, eventually scoring from third on a wild pitch for the game’s final tally.
WHAT’S NEXT: FAMU will hit the road next weekend for a three-game series at South Carolina State.
