TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - When you talk about winning, you have to mention the dynasty that is FAMU DRS girls basketball. The Baby Lady Rattlers won their fourth State Championship in six seasons on Wednesday, beating Academy at the Lakes 55-40 to claim the Class 2A title.
The Championships is the program's fifth overall, and the ladies returned home on Thursday night to some pretty excited family members.
The fact they've won back to back titles is still a little surreal, but head coach Ericka Cromartie said there is a simple reason behind their success.
"My coaching staff and I, we like to coach them, but like them to enjoy the game," she said. "We realize, once they enjoy the game, they'll give you everything they have, because they know, you're allowing them to have fun and at the same time, that we have their best interest at heart. That's our main focus, just to teach them that, and everything else builds upon that. You care about the whole person, not just the athlete, and once they realize that, they just take off."
Cromartie said she plans on taking a few days off to take in the newest addition to the Baby Lady Rattlers' trophy case before she gets ready for next season.
