TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The FAMU DRS Baby Rattler football team didn't have the season they would have liked. The team was winless, their worst record since Ira Reynolds took over the program in 2003. On Friday, FAMU DRS decided to move in a different directions, as Reynolds was fired from his head coaching position.
New Athletic Director Terrance Milton confirmed with WTXL Friday night that a letter of notification was given to Reynolds on Friday letting him know that his contract as head football coach would not be renewed.
Of finding a new coach to get moving in a different direction? Milton said the plan is to get someone in as soon as possible.
"I would like to start this probably around the first, second week of January. no timeline right now," he said Friday. "I definitely want to have someone in place by the time the new football season starts. Being a first year athletic director here, I definitely want to bring FAMU athletics back to it's old tradition. We have a great girls basketball team, but I also want to get our football team back in a positive direction too."
Reynolds reached the playoffs nine of his thirteen years at the helm of the Baby Rattler program, winning a State Championship in 2006.
