TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - This time last week, the FAMU DRS Baby Lady Rattler girls basketball team hit the road, bound for Lakeland and the Class 2A State Final Four. Two days later, they'd win the 2A crown. Now, the DRS boys are looking for the same result as the ladies.
The Rattlers boys punched their ticket to Lakeland and the Class 2A Finals with a win over First Academy-Leesburg on Saturday. This is their third trip to Lakeland in the past six seasons, but they're looking for their first title since 1997.
FAMU DRS is a historically dominant program. They have six State Championships to their name, and to get a seventh, they'll have to get by Bradenton Christian first in Tuesday's Semifinals.
"We wouldn't be telling you the whole truth if we didn't know anything about them," said head coach Sean Crowe. "We know they're a pretty good group, they like to get up and down the court. We like to get up and down the court, so we're looking for a real exciting game on Tuesday afternoon. We got a good history here. We think we're the program that has the legacy and we hope to continue to build on that legacy on this trip."
Tuesday's 2A State Semifinal tips off at 2:00. Hamilton County represents the area in Class 1A. They play defending State Champion Chipley on Tuesday at 10:00. Lincoln High School plays Friday in the Class 7A State Semifinals against St. Petersburg.
