FAMU Baseball bounces back with a win in Game 2

The Rattlers four runs and 13 hits were the most in program history in an NCAA Regional game.

 The Florida A&M Rattlers came back nicely in game 2 of their series with Marshall University, winning 8-1.

    The Rattlers jumped on the board early when Bret Maxwell drove in Garrett Wilkinson on a fielder’s choice in the second inning. This was followed by a 2 RBI single back up the middle byDallas Oliver, scoring Cameron Johnson and Bret Maxwell.

    Florida A&M added to the lead in the fourth inning. Cameron Johnson scored on a Bret Maxwell ground ball to shortstop, and Jordan Curtis added two more runs with a homerun to right center field.

    After four scoreless innings from FAMU starting pitcher Josh WilsonJosh Barr entered the game to pitch in the fifth. Marshall scored their first run on a sacrifice fly by Dakota Robbins beforeDeven Shulstad came in to close the inning. In the bottom half, Marshall brought in Christian Simon to replace starting pitcher Brad O’Connor. Simon would go on to throw two scoreless innings for the Herd.

    Shulstad gave way to Chandellor Benton with two outs in the sixth inning. Benton would close out the sixth and go on to pitch a scoreless seventh inning for FAMU. In the bottom of the seventh, Jacob Bradley came in to pitch for Marshall, and Ty Russ scored on a wild pitch to make the Rattlers’ lead 7-1. In the following inning, Chris Fryer went to the mound for Marshall, andBrian Davis earned his third RBI of the season on a single that scored Jordan Curtis.

   Dylan Carlson came into the game to shut the door for the Rattlers, throwing two scoreless innings to end the game.

    Josh Barr earned his first win of the season for the Rattlers, while Brad O’Connor took the loss for the Thundering Herd.

    Florida A&M and Marshall will meet in a rubber match tomorrow morning at 11:00 AM at Moore-Kittles Field.
