TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida A&M University head football coach Alex Wood announced the school’s 2015 National Signing Day class Wednesday evening before an audience of media, alumni, boosters and fans in the Florida Blue Auditorium in the FAMU School of Pharmacy Building.
Wood offered commentary on each recruit along with recruiting video on each prospect during the program.
“I think we addressed all of our glaring needs,” Wood said after the video presentations. “We are still in the process of evaluating the talent on hand, but we are very optimistic about the coming year.”
In all, 14 players were signed on Wednesday, but Wood indicated that the door was open for additional signees, particularly after spring training when a further evaluation will be done.
“We have a few slots left open for late signees, or possible transfers, but we certainly addressed some needs today,” Wood assessed.
Of Wednesday’s group, FAMU went heavy on the defensive side of the ball, signing four linebackers, three defensive backs and two defensive linemen.
On the offensive side, FAMU brought in three wide receivers, one lineman and and all-state quarterback, Ryan Stanley from Pembroke Pines (Fla.) Flanigan High.
“Getting a quarterback was critical for us, and signing Ryan was big. He’s mobile and has a great arm and is accurate,” Wood said.
