TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 7, 2015) - Tallahassee Community College took a pair of games from Thomas University's JV squad on Saturday at Eagle Field, defeating the Nighthawks 4-1 in game 1. In game two, the offense exploded to win 17-1. The teams play another doubleheader on Sunday in Thomasville, Ga.
Offense was hard to come by in the opener as Tallahassee pulled out a 4-1 win.
Thomas put a run on the board in the first against Chad Mabini but the right-hander followed that with five scoreless innings. Matt Schaeffer tossed a scoreless seventh for the save.
After giving up the run in the first, Tallahassee answered with two runs in the bottom half and padded its lead with two more in the fourth.
Kyle Taddeo doubled home Tyler Kinard for the Eagles' first run in the fourth then later scored on a wild pitch.
Thomas outhit Tallahassee, 6-3, in the opener. Geremy Walton, Kinard and Taddeo had the Eagles' three hits.
In the nightcap, the Eagles sent 14 batters to the plate and scored ten runs in the fifth, turning a relatively close game into a 17-1 win.
Tyler Atwell started the scoring with a two-run double to right-center. He later scored on Cody Fulton's single to shallow left.
Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, a wild pitch scored Taddeo from third. Chris Clark finished clearing the bases with a two-run single to shallow center.
Kinard ended the scoring with an RBI-double to deep left.
Clark led the Eagles' 17-hit attack, going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Atwell (2-for-4, 3 R, 4 RBI), Zach Featherstone (2-for-3, R, RBI), Taddeo (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI), Jeremy Scott (2-for-3, 2 R, RBI) and Mac Wilson (2-for-2, 3 R, 2 RBI) also had multi-hit games for Tallahassee.
Micah Dunn went four innings to pick up the victory. He struck out six. Garrett Woofter, making his collegiate debut, pitched the final two innings.
