TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - The Florida A&M Rattlers open up the 2017 season at home against Texas Southern on August 26th. An early kickoff means an early start to fall camp, and that's why on Tuesday morning, the Rattlers got after it for the first time.
For the first time since 2015, this Florida A&M squad headed into fall camp with a spring under their belts. Head coach Alex Wood notes there was definitely a different air around camp on opening day.
Along with spring football, the Rattlers have worked hard all summer, working on technique and participating in seven on seven competition.
There are several athletes coming back, and one spot to expect good competition? Quarterback, as Ryan Stanley fights to keep his starting job.
"I've always been told growing up that iron sharpens iron, so having other good quarterbacks on this campus really pushes me to the best of my ability," said Stanley. "My work ethic is still the same, whether I'm first or fourth string. I'm still going to come out here and do the best every day."
"That brings competition," added Wood of having returners back at several positions. "You know, competition is the key to us getting better. Everybody that we've added to this roster can compete and compete legitimately for a job, so that's good."
Florida A&M will continue practice through August 19th, when they'll host a mock game.
