It's been a fun couple of weeks for high school hoops in the Big Bend. Four boys teams punched their tickets to the Lakeland and State Final Four last week, two making their very first appearance.
Crossroad Academy is one of those history making teams, and they took on Central Florida Christian in the 2A State Semifinals on Monday. The Scorpions put up a good fight, but fell 59 to 44.
"I've been stressing for the past week about our defense how it can win ballgames for us. We had to defend. I thought we had a huge letdown defensively and we just couldn't throw it in the basket tonight," said Andonte Gennie, the head boy's basketball coach for Crossroad Academy. "It was a good season for us. I thought we had a great run. Too bad it came short this game here, but we're going to keep fighting and get better next season. Hopefully we'll be back here next year."
Crossroad Academy returns three of their starters next season.
