THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University athletics department announced today the resignation of Stephen Cox as the Night Hawk men’s basketball head coach.  The former Night Hawks coach will pursue other coaching opportunities.

During his two seasons as Thomas’ head coach, Cox finished with a 35-24 record. That includes finishing 18-18 in The Sun Conference.  The Night Hawks finished sixth in the Sun Conference and were ranked as high as No. 15 in the NAIA in the 2014-2015 season.  In his two seasons Cox developed two Sun Conference first team players---Justyn Watkins  (2013-2014) and Alan Love (2014-2015).

Watkins was also named to the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball All-Star team and was tabbed with a selection on the NAIA All-American Second Team.

Previously, Cox was an assistant coach at Georgia Southwestern State University (NCAA Division II).  Prior to GSW, Cox served as an assistant at Savannah State University, Mercer University and Sante Fe Community College.

As a player, Cox played two seasons at Middle Georgia College prior to transferring to Clayton State University.

"I want to thank Coach Cox for his service to Thomas University and our men's basketball program," stated athletic director Mike Lee. "We wish him the best in his future endeavors."

A national search is currently underway for Cox’s replacement.
