VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - In December, Valdosta State capped off a perfect 14-0 season by winning the Division II National Championship. This team is well aware that 2018 is in the books. On Thursday, day one of the 2019 season kicked off, as spring practice began for the Blazers.

A new era has begun, as with the departure of head coach Kerwin Bell, Gary Goff now at the helm, ready to defend last year's crown and of course chase title number five.

"It's kind of like Christmas morning. You get to come out here and play with all new toys," laughed Goff. "Real excited. Guys have been working extremely hard and they're ready to get out here and kind of show us what they can do. In the meantime, we're learning new schemes on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. We're excited to get out here and work with them and do football."

"You've seen what we've accomplished last season, so we already know people are going to come to us really, really hard," added senior defensive lineman Joseph Mozone. "I feel like our hungriness is probably the most it's ever been. We know we have to do it again and we're ready to get after it."

Valdosta State's spring game is set for April 27th at 11 in the morning.
