TALLAHASSEE, Fl. — Tallahassee Community College's softball team swept its second straight doubleheader on Saturday, beating the University of South Carolina-Salkehatchie, 15-13 and 12-2, at the TCC Softball Complex.
Tallahassee has won four straight games to improve to 5-6 on the season.
Game one resembled a continuation of Wednesday's wild game two against Andrew (Ga.) College, a game the Eagles won, 24-14. Tallahassee and USC-Salkehatchie combined for 28 runs and 29 hits in the Eagles' 15-13 win.
USC-Salkehatchie smacked four home runs beginning with Sam Blackwell's first-inning grand slam that put the Indians on top, 4-0.
Tallahassee got two of the runs back in its first at-bat on consecutive RBI-doubles from Katelyn Hobbs and Alyssa Krausz, but Tiara Peters answered in the top of the second with the first of her three home runs, a two-run shot that put the Indians back in front by four, 6-2.
Tallahassee tied the game in the bottom of the second with four runs. Esmee Toet's two-run single brought the Eagles within two and Hobbs knotted the game with a two-run double.
Tallahassee took its first lead an inning later and led 12-7 through five when USC-Salkehatchie put together a rally of its own in the top of the sixth. With one run already on the board, Peters' grand slam tied the game at 12.
The see-saw affair tilted Tallahassee's direction once again in its final at-bat. Casey Erb's two-out double scored Toet and Hobbs to put the Eagles back in front, 14-12. The next batter, Stacey Hudson, singled home Erb from second to give the Eagles a three-run lead.
The Indians more than threatened in their final at-bat. With the bases loaded and one out – and Peters looming in the on-deck circle – a sac-fly scored a run but also opened a base. Tallahassee took advantage by walking Peters to reload the bases, and Emily Oakes struck out Blackwell to end the game.
Hobbs went 5-for-5 with a pair of doubles, scored three runs and drove in three.
Emma Fowler (3-3) picked up the win for Tallahassee. Oakes got her first save.
The offensive fireworks continued for Tallahassee in a 12-2, five-inning game two victory.
The teams traded first-inning runs then the Eagles exploded for a nine-run second, capped by Erb's grand slam. Hobbs sent a two-run shot out of the park in the fourth to give Tallahassee a 12-1 lead.
Erb was 1-for-2 in game two, Hobbs was 1-for-3. Maddy Walter went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and scored twice.
Oakes (2-3) picked up the win with a five-inning complete game.
Tallahassee will wrap up its six-game homestand at 4 p.m. Tuesday when Santa Fe College visits for a doubleheader.
