Eagles drop pair on day one of CMI

LONGWOOD, Fl. — Tallahassee Community College's softball team opened the Courtney Miller Invitational with a pair of losses on Saturday, falling to Miami Dade College, 9-4, and Seminole State College, 13-5.

In the first game of the day, Tallahassee opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first but Miami Dade answered with two in the bottom half. By the end of the third, the Eagles trailed 6-2.

Jania Davis homered as part of a 2-for-4 effort. Katelyn Hobbs and Alyssa Krausz also had two hits each.

Emma Fowler went the distance in the circle but came away with the loss.

Tallahassee got off to an even faster start against nationally-ranked Seminole State. A two-run homer by Esmee Toet keyed a third-run first, however, the host Raiders put up five runs in the bottom half.

The Eagles tied the game at 5-all in the second on a two-run single by Hobbs.

Seminole exploded for seven runs in the third and added the clinching run in the firth to end the game via the mercy rule.

The Eagles racked up 11 hits, led by Hobbs, who was 3-for-3. Maddy Walther and Dyamond Brown had two hits apiece.

Emily Oakes took the loss for Tallahassee.

The Eagles will play two more games in the CMI on Sunday beginning at 9:45 a.m. against Florida SouthWestern State College.
