Softball Completes Sweep Of NCCU, 6-1 Sunday

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Mar. 24) – Alexis Day’s two-run inside the park home run keyed a four-run fifth inning rally which led to a 6-1 Florida A&M victory over North Carolina Central in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Softball contest Sunday afternoon.

Sunday’s win completed a three-game conference opening sweep for FAMU (11-21, 3-0 MEAC), which has won five of their last nine games

Central scored their lone run in the top of the first for a 1-0 lead, before FAMU scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame on RBI singles by Day and Brandice Boatwright for a 2-1 lead.

In the fifth, FAMU broke the game open with a four-run outbreak, thanks to an RBI single by Jamesia Stoudemire, and an RBI ground out by Taylor Rosier, before Day’s two-run homer make the score 6-1.

Boatwright (4-4) got the win for FAMU, scattering nine hits, allowing one first inning run in seven innings.

Day led FAMU offensively with two hits and three RBI, with two runs scored, while Shakayla Nixon added two hits. Jamesia Stoudemire, Boatwright, Kimaya Watkins and Tyra Bowers each had a hit Sunday.
