TALLAHASSEE, Fl. — The Florida State soccer team’s season came to an end on Friday afternoon with a 4-0 loss to second-seeded UCLA at home. It was the first NCAA Tournament loss at home for Florida State since November 27, 2009.

The Bruins got out quick scoring their first goal in the eighth minute with a Chloe Castaneda goal coming on an assist from Mia Fishel. Ten minutes later, the Bruins would tack on another one with Castaneda’s second goal of the day and fifth of the season coming off an assist from Anika Rodriguez.

UCLA capped off the first half with their third goal of the game, this one coming from Mia Fishel, her 13th of the season. UCLA outshout Florida State 7-2 in the first half and recorded five corner kicks.

Florida State came out with a quick shot just a minute into the second half from Jenna Nighswonger but the shot was blocked. UCLA would then control the rest of the game getting their fourth goal in the 54th minute. It was Mia Fishel’s second of the afternoon and 14th of the season.

Florida State would not be able to catch up to the Bruins as the surrendered four goals for the first time since 2012 and suffered their worst loss since they lost 5-0 to Stanford in the 2010 College Cup.

This game was also the end of an era for two Seminoles as Deyna Castellanos and Caroline Jeffers wrapped up their careers in the Garnet and Gold. Castellanos will go down as one of the greatest soccer players in Florida State history as she ends her career ranked in the top-2 in program history in Goals (48), Points (118), Shots (343), Shots on Goal (166) and Game Winning Goals (20). Castellanos was a three-time First Team All-ACC member and a two time Second Team All-American.

Jeffers would end her career ranked seventh in FSU history in wins with 21. She will forever be remembered for coming in during the ACC Championship game a season ago and leading the Seminoles to their second National Championship, capping off the season with three straight shutouts.
