TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) — Florida State Softball began fall practice Monday afternoon. The Seminoles come into the 2019-2020 season off a decent run from last year. The 2018 national champions were ousted by Oklahoma State before they could make it to the World Series.

This year, they have new coaches and new players which means team chemistry is of the utmost importance. "I think this fall, definitely building our team chemistry with all the new girls and the new staff and everything," said FSU junior utility player, Sydney Sherrill. "And working on your tools is kind of something on your extra work time, at night time, in cages and that kind of thing. We also work on tools out here but it's also building team chemistry."

The team motto for this season is "Live the Dash." Players and coaches alike say the dash in between 2019 and 2020 is what they are doing every day. Head Coach Lonni Alameda explained that her, along with her staff, tried to come up with what they wanted to identify for the 2019-2020 season. That is when the dash between 2019 and 2020 caught their attention. Growth is a huge things for this team, seeing as nearly half of the team is new.

"Growing day by day was going to be a big part of it so we have a piece of paper with 2019 and 2020 with this big dash in the middle and every week we write things in it that we are getting better at, and growing at, and getting to know each other," explained Coach Alameda. "We have Tuesday Trivia where we quiz each other on people's names and hometowns and all kinds of things to kind of really integrate that family atmosphere and that growth moment for each other."

The Seminole softball squad will have a garnet and gold game on October 25.
