TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Coming off an 18 - 6 season and a trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals last season, Florida State is picked to finish second in the ACC in 2020. The Seminoles are also one of two teams to place three on the preseason all-ACC team.
Florida State opens their 10 game season at home on September 17 against Notre Dame.
Florida State tallied 123 points, trailing only North Carolina who earned 129 points. The Seminoles also finished second in the ACC in first-place votes with three, five less than North Carolina.
FSU was also one of two teams to place three student-athletes on the preseason all-ACC Team – redshirt senior Malia Berkely, junior Jaelin Howell and junior Yujie Zhao.
Berkely is back for her fourth season of action with Florida State coming off a season in which she scored two goals and assisted on four others.
Berkely was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year, a First Team All-American, and a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy.
Howell heads into her third season with the Seminoles coming off of another stellar season. She was named First Team All-ACC and was selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region Second-Team.
Howell finished the season tied for third on the team with five goals and finished the season with four assists as she started all 23 games she played in as the team’s holding midfielder.
Zhao heads into her third season with the Seminoles after an impressive sophomore campaign. She was named to the All-ACC First Team for the second straight season and to the United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Third Team.
Zhao finished second on the team with six assists and tied for third on the team with five goals.
The Noles begin the season on September 17 when they take on Notre Dame at home.
