TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - "Cam is a great kid, and we're going to do what's best for him," said Florida State interim head coach Odell Haggins. "That's the conversation we had."

What's best for Cam Akers? Get ready for the NFL Draft. The junior running back announced Saturday on Twitter that he will enter the 2020 NFL Draft and will not play in Florida State's upcoming bowl game in El Paso.

The Seminoles kicked off Bowl Practice Saturday, now Cam-less at running back. Haggins added that Alex Hornibrook and Dontavious Jackson are no longer with the team, as they're focusing on training for the Draft as well. Everything else is business as usual. This team said they are happy to be back in a Bowl game after missing out last year. It's another chance to play in a game, and 15 extra practices to get better that you wouldn't have otherwise.

"We're going to enjoy these 15 days," said Haggins. "It's going to be fun. I told these kids we're going to work our butts off, we're going to work on fundamentals and we're going to get better."

"We're blessed with to play another game of football," added redshirt sophomore quarterback James Blackman. "We're going to take this serious knowing we have another game to play. We're going to execute, play hard and get this win."

Florida State faces Arizona State in the Sun Bowl on New Year's Eve. Kickoff is at 2:00/ET.
